Why a Leaning Fence Is Usually Two Bad Posts

Posts rot at ground level, where wet wood meets air. By the time a fence leans, the part below the soil has usually gone entirely.

What the Repair Covers

  • Holes filled and patches sanded flush.
  • Gaps caulked so water stays out.
  • Primer wherever the surface needs it.

What the Repair Covers

Most leaning fences come down to two or three posts that have rotted at ground level, where wet wood meets air. The boards and rails above them are usually still fine.

That matters because resetting a few posts costs a fraction of replacing the run. We walk the whole line with you and say plainly which parts are sound and which are not.

Before We Start

  • Furniture moved and floors covered.
  • Switch plates and fittings taken off.
  • Edges masked and planting protected.

Before We Start

Yuba City sun is hard on exterior coatings, and older homes hide a lot of movement in their plaster. Prep is what the finish rests on.

What You Get

  • Two even coats, cut in by hand.
  • Plates reinstalled and the room put back.
  • Site swept and trash hauled away.

What You Get

We work room by room so you keep the use of your house, and we clean down at the end of every day rather than at the end of the job.

Fences and Gates, Fixed Right

A Straight Answer on Repair Versus Replace

A fence that leans is not automatically a fence that needs replacing. Push on each post in turn: the ones that move are the problem, and the sound ones are still doing their job.

If more than roughly half the posts have gone, replacement is usually the better spend and we will show you why on the walkthrough rather than after the invoice.

What We Repair

A fence repair is one of the few jobs where honest advice saves you the most money, because the difference between a repair and a replacement is usually thousands.

Work We Take On

  • Leaning and rotten posts reset in concrete.
  • Split boards and pulled rails replaced.
  • Sagging gates squared, braced and re-hung.
  • Staining and sealing to keep water out.

What Changes the Price

  • How many posts have actually failed.
  • Access along the run for tools and concrete.
  • Whether the wood can be matched or the run restained.

Why Yuba City Homeowners Call Us Back

Blair Handyman is small and local on purpose. The person who walks your fence line is the person who turns up to fix it, so nothing gets lost between the estimate and the work.

We are residential only, and we will tell you when a repair will do rather than selling you a replacement you do not need.

Yuba City runs from older midtown lots with mature trees pushing at the fence line to newer developments on open ground. Root movement and wind exposure change the job street by street.

What we see most in Yuba City is orchard-country homes with real temperature swings between summer and winter, which moves wood and opens up joints. That changes how a job is planned, so we look at the actual property before quoting.

Fence & Gate Repairs in Yuba City: Common Questions

(916) 807-9108

Do you cover Yuba City?

Yes. We cover Yuba City and Sutter County as part of our regular service area, along with 16+ other local cities. Residential properties only — houses, townhouses and condos.

Usually not. Leaning almost always traces back to two or three posts that have rotted at ground level while the boards and rails are still fine. Resetting those costs a fraction of a replacement run, and we will tell you straight if that is genuinely not the case here.

Two usual causes: the hinge post has moved, or the frame has racked out of square under its own weight. Both are fixable. We reset or straighten the post, brace the frame, fit hinges rated for the actual weight and set the latch so it catches first time.

Deep enough for the height of the fence and the ground it is going into, set plumb and set in concrete, then left to cure before anything is reattached to them. Shallow posts are exactly why the fence is leaning in the first place.

As closely as the wood available allows. New boards will not have weathered to the same color yet, and we say so up front rather than let it be a surprise. Staining the run afterward evens it out considerably.

Yes. We walk the run, tell you what actually needs doing and give you a written price with no fee and no obligation. Call (916) 807-9108 and we will arrange a time.
